About this deal

The first step to fitting your new carpet is removing your old carpet and preparing your sub-floor. The sub-floor is just the foundation underneath the floor, usually, this is concrete or wood. If the sub-floor isn’t prepared properly, it will affect the way that your carpet lies and potentially ruin the overall finish. Here’s how you do it… place your gripper rod on the floor and make a mark with a pencil underneath where the nails are lined up with the floor. After you’ve marked up the space for your carpet gripper, you’ll need to drill a hole and insert a dowel rod. You can then use the dowel rod as a rawl plug for the carpet gripper’s nails. Once you’ve neatly inserted the dowel rod, you just have to hammer the nails in, and you’re done. A perfect installation that will hold your new carpet nicely. How to remove carpet gripper? You need a double-edged door bar with grips on both sides to connect carpets in two different rooms in the doorway.

As well as arranging the standard fitting service, we can also arrange for the fitter to uplift and dispose of your existing floor covering. For a small fee, the fitter will take up and dispose of your old flooring before they fit your new one. That’s one less thing to worry about! With the holes correctly drilled, you can put the door threshold strip, i.e. the door bar, onto the floor with the holes in line with those you drilled. First, ensure both rooms’ carpet edges are correctly aligned in the gripper. Now, on to actually removing the gripper… Starting at one end of the room, use a chisel to get underneath the gripper and gently hammer along the length of the gripper to loosen it up. You should then be able to lever the nails/adhesive loose and remove them from the floor to make space for new ones. It’s worth investing in a good underlay. Not only does it affect how your flooring looks and feels, it can also increase its longevity. It can also help to significantly reduce your energy bills by trapping heat and increasing insulation. Use this off-cut from the last sheet in the first row to start the second row and carry on in the same way. This reduces waste and also helps by ensuring the joints are staggered. Before you start it is important to locate any hidden wires or pipes using a pipe and wire detector. They are fixed around the perimeter of the room and are used to help tension the carpet and hold it in place – this stops the carpet and underlay from moving and rippling. Carpet grippers are long pieces of plywood, usually 1.5m long x 2cm wide. They have sharp angled nails in them that are designed to hold the carpet in place.

Contract Gripper

The benefits of installing them are to ensure that where the flooring in both rooms meets (the doorway) is held securely. They are essential for safety. Without the bars, the rough edges of the two carpets would be seen and would pose a huge risk of tripping. In time, when continuously walking through the doorway, the carpet will fray and wear down. Not to mention where the carpets meet in the doorway would look unsightly. You can find them at most hardware stores. However, it’s often suggested that buying them online can lead to much bigger savings.

There is no danger from this gas, but many people don't like the smell. Ideally, you should ventilate the room well by opening windows and doors for 72 hours. Vacuuming the carpet can also help get rid of the odour.

Standard Gripper

Once lined up, use a power drill, if possible, to fix the screws firmly into place, making sure the screws are straight and secure and have gone all the way down into place. If you don’t get the screws in evenly and all the way down, they can become a trip hazard and/or stop the door from closing properly. Before fitting your new carpet you probably have some old flooring to remove, as well as preparing the sub-floor underneath. At Carpetright we make fitting a new floor easy at every step. In addition to our approved fitting arrangement service, we can also arrange to uplift your old flooring and dispose of it for you to ensure that you experience a hassle-free fit. Make sure you use 19mm nails to lessen the risk of piercing through the floorboard into pipes or cables.

With this easy-to-follow 4-step guide, you should now be ready to fit your door bar over the carpet. Parents don't always want to screw catches or other fixtures directly into the door or skirting board so the Door Gripper presents the perfect alternative. Getting the right size is also essential for aesthetics, so carefully measure the width of the doorway. Put your door bar against the frame of the door on the floor and make a mark for the end of your doorway onto the bar. Just as important as measuring the width of the carpet gripper for your doorway is measuring the gap between the floor and the bottom of your door. This is to ensure that you can close your door with the door bar in place. It goes without saying that if the door bar is taller than the gap, you will not be able to close your door. First, you need to select the best carpet gripper rods for your type of floor. At interfloor, we have a wide range of carpet gripper rods to suit all types of flooring. The above tool will help you choose the best gripper for your needs.

When you are ready, place the door bar where it needs to be. The ideal position is central over the threshold with the join of the two carpets in the middle of the bar. Using your pencil, mark the screw holes, then put the bar to one side and drill each of the holes. Step Four – Firmly screw the door bar into place If a lot of your floorboards are damaged, it’s cheaper and easier to pull them all up and start again. Use fit tongue-and-groove chipboard flooring panels which will give you a great base for your final flooring. If you need to replace your gripper rods with new ones, it can be fiddly, but here’s what you need to do… Once the carpet is fitted, there may be a slight odour which may be caused by the carpet or the underlay. This is called "off-gassing" and is due to chemicals called volatile organic compounds (VOCs) used in household items such as carpet adhesive, paint, and pressed-wood furniture. They evaporate at room temperature, which is why your carpet begins to smell once it is laid in your house.
